Our Ethos | The Love Mae Commitment to Change
Because we care about the planet and the little people it supports, we are passionate about respecting the earth and take our roles as caretakers for the next generation seriously and even make sure that all of Love Mae’s products are packaged in planet friendly biodegradable materials too.
Where is Love Mae located?
Our Love Mae HQ and warehouse is located in Byron Bay, Australia. All orders are processed and despatched from our Byron Bay warehouse.
Bamboo dinnerware is created with a bi-product of the bamboo industry, the bits that don't make it into the fashion industry. This is then ground into a powder, mixed with food grade binding resins and then poured into a mould to be heat treated. Each of the bamboo pieces are then treated similarly to porcelain, where they are baked twice - the first time to shape the product, then again when the decal is applied and sealed. All bamboo dinnerware found on the market, does in fact contain some melamine which helps to strengthen the bamboo. What makes bamboo dinnerware so appealing is that it mostly made from natural fibres and therefore will mostly decompose, unlike plastic or 100% melamine dinnerware!
Our new first-of-its-kind Plant-Based dinnerware is created with compostable corn, how clever is that? If you already love Mae’s planet-friendly products, you’ll know we’re always on the lookout for safer, cleaner options in the ever-changing world of sustainable materials, to ensure our eco-footprint is as light as a carbon-free feather. Created using a bi-product of the food industry that would otherwise be discarded. By repurposing this corn waste, we’re actually reducing the amount of methane and CO2 that is released into the atmosphere when it’s burned off.
Can our dinnerware be used in the Microwave?
Our dinnerware is not microwave safe.
Can Love Mae Bamboo & Plant-Based items be put in the dishwasher?
Absolutely, but we recommend that they be placed in the top shelf where the temperatures are a little lower for longevity.
Will my bamboo dinner set break if thrown on the floor?
Bamboo & plant-based dinnerware is very similar to melamine in its ability to break, you need to take care that they are not dropped on hard surfaces such as concrete and tiles. Although they can generally take a lot of wear and tear, the odd fall on the wrong point can have them split.
Where are our products made?
All of our products our designed in Byron Bay and our decals are produced locally near by. All of eco dinnerware is made in China. We are pleased to say that we work closely with our China based factories to achieve a high standard of working conditions.
Why Fabric Decals vs Vinyl?
Our decals are made out of fabric and with that comes lots of positives. The fabric is a polyester weave with a water based adhesive which means they have no pvc’s, are bio degradable and are non toxic. The advanced water based adhesive allows them to be re-used over and over again so no need to throw them out when your little one pulls them off the wall... just re-apply them. The quality of fabric decals are far more superior than the vinyl counterparts.
How do I apply my decals?
We recommend that you clean your walls before you apply them. After that, its simple case of peel and stick. It’s that easy. It is helpful to have a pair of scissors to cut any stubborn threads. Because they are re-usable you can move them around until you get them exactly how you want them. How lovely! If you are moving or wishing to store them, just place them back on their backing sheet and re-use at a later date. (Should you not have your original backing sheet, glossy baking paper will also work).
Will Love Mae fabric decals damage my walls?
Definitely not! They will not harm surfaces. We do however hope you are mindful when it comes to fresh paint. We would recommend waiting two weeks until you stick decals on it. Please be mindful that our stickers will peel off bubbling or peeling paint. If unsure or worried try putting up a sample for a couple of weeks before applying the full scene. DO NOT use can chemicals or cleaning products on your decals, it will damage them. This also includes chemicals on your walls that the stickers will be stuck to. Certain paint finishes will not guarantee adhesion. (ie. oil based paints and heavily textured walls.)
What surfaces do they stick on?
Our decals stick on almost any surface.... tongue and groove, VJ, timber, glass, cement rendered, brick and all your other standard surfaces such as plasterboard etc. If unsure feel free to check with us first.
Why plastic for our lunch boxes?
